This class focuses on developing the skills required by the Canadian Kennel Club Canine Good Neighbour Program. One objective of the Program is "To certify that dogs conduct themselves in a manner which is reliable and trustworthy in situations encountered in everyday living, be it around people, at home, in public, or in the presence of other dogs." As such, the 12 step test has some overlap with typical Therapy Dog Tests, but can be taken when the dog is only 1-year old, and as many times as you want. There is a cost, since judges are trained by the Canadian Kennel Club and paid for their work, and some test locations also charge rent. Importantly, the Canine Good Neighbour Test typically does not grant you and your dog any special rights or access, but it is an excellent first goal for "want-to-be" therapy dogs.
Please bring to class, small soft treats in a pouch.
