I have always had a strong affinity for animals. I started dog training professionally in 2020 and became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Accessed (CPDT-KA) in 2024. This certification requires 300+ hours of professional experience in 3 years, a signed attestation from a current certificant, a pass on a 200-question exam, and regularly attending continuing education events. I am a Positive Reinforcement trainer using treats, play, and praise to make the experience fun for your dog and you. I think the most important aspect of training is building an affirmative bond between canine and human.
I started as a Therapy Dog Team with my Australian Labradoodle Fudge. From 2014-2023 we volunteered with Pets and Friends, St John Ambulance, and BC Children's Hospital Pet Therapy Program. We visited with many people including older adults in care, children practising their reading, and pre-surgery patients at the Children's Hospital. In 2021, I designed the Assessment for Child Engagement (ACE) Therapy Dog Test for the BC Children's Hospital, and did their evaluations and in-house training until 2025. In 2025, I moved from Vancouver to Cobourg with my Bernedoodle, Cookies N' Cream. Cookie is my sixth dog, and hopefully, when mature enough, will be my second Therapy Dog.
